You may be quite happy with your heating system but feel that something is missing. When the energy bills are higher than you expected even with an energy efficient heating system, it’s confusing. Why isn’t it more efficient given modern technology, you ask yourself? Well, there are answers to that question, which we’ll cover in this article thanks to the help of Know The Flo.
We also introduce the idea of mechanical ventilation with heat recovery too. Whether they would help to make your British home less costly to keep warm is also explored.
Why Your Modern Heating System Has a Problem?
Heating systems are indeed more energy efficient in how they operate compared to previous decades. They use power in smarter ways to generate heat while using fewer kilowatts of energy to do so. We shouldn’t really complain about them and often they don’t need replacing at all.
So, what’s the problem?
The issue comes into play with how heat travels indoors. It starts at the feet level where radiators are usually positioned and then rises to the ceiling. Some heat escapes through the walls when they’re not insulated properly. Some warm air will get into the hallway and the landing on the next floor up where the bedrooms are located. But the warm air doesn’t stop there. It continues rising through the floors and out the roof.
Then it’s gone. And its absence is noticed.
Then the thermostat triggers the heater to turn back on. Essentially, we initially heat each room and then continue to pay to heat them again. It doesn’t matter how energy efficient your heating system is, it still usually operates this way.
Is a Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery System Better?
A mechanical ventilation heat recovery system (MVHR) is increasingly used to complement an existing heating system. It’s not better per se – it’s just got new tricks up its sleeve.
For instance, using a Nuaire MVHR integrated system, warm air inside the home is captured, the heat stripped out and the old air expelled from the building. Meanwhile, outdoor air is brought in and the retained warmth is added to the air to warm it up. Then the air is filtered to remove any contaminants like dust, pollen, etc. Once ready, the new air is recirculated through the ducting system to warm various parts of the home.
Using this type of system in conjunction with a regular heating system is cost-efficient. It prevents the heater from needing to be used as often because once the home is heated up, the heat is continually recirculated instead of having to be regenerated.
Are Two Systems More Energy Efficient?
A Nuaire MVHR system is very energy efficient. It runs on low energy and operates cleanly. What energy it does consume is far less than what’s saved by an existing heating system not needing to be used as regularly during colder periods.
Furthermore, when heaters are used less frequently each day, they tend to develop fewer maintenance issues and potentially can last longer before needing to be replaced.
With Nuaire MVHR and other heating systems, it’s not an either/or situation. Getting a Nuaire heat recovery system installed improves existing heating facilities whether in a smaller or large home. And in the long-term, it’s a net money saver too.
