Subject: Thank You from Jim Parker

Good morning.  This message is to Alan Harvard and other members of the "Buckeye State Blog".  THANK YOU.

Your recent comments about my candidacy are both flattering AND appreciated.

Today, I have taken a day off of work so that I can do my other full-time job --- WORK FOR THE PEOPLE OF SOUTHERN OHIO!

I'll begin at the Waverly News Watchman.  Then I'll drive to Brown County and visit the people at the Brown County Press.  Then I'll head south to Route 52.  The people who live down by the river are some of the nicest people that you will ever meet.  Then, once I get to Adams County, I'll head north on 41 and stop by the People's Defender (Adams County Newspaper).  Then, it's back down to the river.  I'll drive the length of 52, stopping all along the way...

I will talk with people about the problems that they are having in their daily lives.  We'll talk about their families and their children.  I will meet people who work for a living but do not have health insurance.  That's easy to do; it's 1 out of every 6 people these days.

I'll get to meet people who are retired, people who are poor, people who need Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.  That's easy too because the 100 million people who need those programs are 1 out of every 3 people in America.  We will talk about how George Bush has no plan to save Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security for the 77 million baby boomers who are getting ready to start to retire.  And how I have a plan to save Medicare as we know it for America's future generations.

We will talk about my belief that we need a middle class tax cut for every family that earns less than $100,000 per year.  We will talk about how the President's recent round of tax cuts gave almost $8,000 to the wealthiest people in Ohio and only $46 lousy bucks to the middle class.  That's enough for a tank of gas, dinner from the dollar menu and a lottery ticket.  We need REAL TAX CUTS for working families if we are going to make our economy everything that it can be instead of what it has become...

I will get to meet people who agree with me when I say that I think that Ted Strickland will be the greatest Governor that Ohio has ever known.  We will talk about the war in Iraq.  I will get to meet hunters and sportsmen and I will tell them that I stand with Ted Strickland and Paul Hackett on the right to bear arms.  The rights of people who want to own guns are very important to me.  We'll talk about how my son got his first buck last year and how I grew up in Jack Murtha's Congressional District.  That was a place where almost every kid and his Dad missed school and work on the first Monday after Thanksgiving in order to hunt on the first day of buck season.

Then I will arrive at the Portsmouth Daily Times at 2:00 and meet the editor and the publisher.  Then I'll drive North on 23 and 100 miles west on 32 in order to attend the 2006 Century Club Reception (sponsored by the Hamilton County Democratic Party).  Former Ohio Attorney General and Candidate for Lieutenant Governor, Lee Fisher will be speaking.  I will be trying to convince the Hamilton County Democratic Party that I am the candidate who can win this election for them in November.

Then, I'll head back to see my family in Waverly, Ohio (Pike County).  The kids will be sleeping and my wife and I will get a few stolen moments together.

This is what I plan to do on my day off.

This campaign is about the people of Southern Ohio.

THIS IS GOING TO BE A GREAT DAY!

Jim Parker

Democratic Candidate for US Congress

Southern Ohio - 2nd District - 2006

And then tomorrow...  That will be just another day in healthcare..  Except for the Democratic meeting in Brown County tomorrow night...  Hopefully, that will go as well as the Pike County Democratic Meeting went last Thursday night...
