Congressionals OH-2, OH-15 Already Workin' It

First off, news from OH-15. Over a month ago we reported that Franklin County Commissioner Paula Brooks had formed a 527 with the help of Democratic Super Lawyer, Don McTigue. All signs from this indicated that Commissioner Brooks was considering a bid for the OH-15 seat. Over the weekend I had a couple conversations with a handful of Democratic Operatives down in Franklin County, and they confirmed the buzz that I've been hearing for the past month. People have made it clear to me that Paula Brooks is committed to an '08 Congressional bid in the 15th against Pryce. Here's the kicker though: Power players in Columbus are divided between Brooks and Pryce, and there's a rush right now to try and force one of them out of the primary. Apparently some of Kilroy's former supporters feel that if she couldn't defeat Pryce in '06, it's time for a new contender in '08. Now, I'm not sure if I buy that line of reasoning. Kilroy only ended '06 down 1,062 votes, well within striking distance.

Also, the hardest working man in OH-2, Jim Parker, sent me an email recently.

Parker's Back

Jim's distributed 2,500 copies of this leaflet throughout the OH-2 so far this year. Kudos to Mr. Parker for keeping the campaign on. So, what's going on in your kneck of the woods?

Yeh Paula! You go, Girl!

Paula Brooks can take the OH 15th-- gerrymandered and all-- and bring it back into Democratic hands.

In addition to her appeal to Columbus progressives, Paula will run well in Madison and Union counties-- areas that Mary Jo essentially ignored.

Deb Pryce is toast if we nominate Paula.

Mary Jo Kilroy or Paula Brooks

Why would Paula do better in Union and Madison Counties? She has never been on the ballot there and she's from Upper Arlington. Kilroy got outspent by millions (because Deb being in leadership) Clearly Deb won't be able to do that again. Kilroy raised more than any Dem cong candidate in Central OH. Brooks has not shown herself to be good fundraiser. Kilroy wounded the animal, let her finish it off.

An important point...

Kilroy got beaten pretty handily in Upper Arlington - Brooks had substantial from UA when she ran for the county. I think Paula will be a fine fundraiser - she hasn't had much cause until now, and this is still the slow season.

I have a great deal of respect for Mary Jo, but Paula would be a much stronger candidate.

EDIT: I wrote about this topic at UAPA's blog

Open Invitation to Paula and Mary Jo

Hey ladies, if you both really want to be in Congress, you should realize that you're both sitting less than two miles from your very own shot.

Map of the Stars

It's not really carpetbagging, and Pa(rro)t has already played that card, anyway. Move to the 12th. We've got lots of nice neighborhoods. Live here in Bexley. Live in Italian Village. Live in Dublin. Follow everybody else to New Albany. Just do it soon. We've got lots of work to do.

BRILLIANT!

Here, have a Guinness...

Paula is much stronger in 15th

Jerid... I don't know about "power players" being split or not... but a lot of 15th district rank-and-file  D's and I's are pushing Paula to run for Congress. Why? Paula has lived there for 20 years and has been repeatedly elected to office in UA and the county.

Just check the election stats for Paula and Mary Jo for last few years. Paula has traditionally run far more strongly than Kilroy in the suburbs and even city precints of the 15th. Nobody is entitled to a 15th nomination just because they got close during the Dem "perfect storm" in 2006.

Brutus is right.  Pryce would be toast if Paula ran.

To clarify

"power players" is an exact term that was told to me.

Someone please tell Jim Parker

Political literature and fliers MUST have a paid for by line. I believe the line must be in at least 8 point font, and in a box. It would read in this case: People who trust and believe in Jim Parker, former candidate for US Congress Committee, _Insert name of treasurer_, treasurer. (please tell me you have a treasurer Jim) Jim, if you want to be a legitimate candidate, DO THIS SHIT, or ole Mean Jean will sick the hounds on you. I think the fine is something like $100 per piece of literature - so this flier would be a quarter million dollar fine. But don't worry - if you don't have the money to pay it - they simply put you in jail for as many as 16 years.

THANK YOU for Jim Parker

Save Medicare, Create Jobs, End the War

Alan,

A long time ago, back when I was the Assistant Administrator of a hospital for the first time, I learned a very important lesson.   "Respond, Don't React."

Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity help thousands of people and for that, I am truly one of the luckiest people ever...

Thanks for noticing that I have been saying "THANK YOU" to the people who live and raise their families in Southern Ohio.  Right now, I honestly have not decided if I will run for Congress in 2008.

I have been writing a book about the constant struggles of middle class families.  In it, I can describe the struggles of our newly elected Governor who is doing everything possible not to raise taxes while fully realizing that he was left with a whole list of lame-duck session legislation and a billion dollar budget shortfall.  In the book, I can desctibe the staggering cost of healthcare and how it is hurting samll businesses and working families while the government is allowing the Medicare program to evaporate right before our very eyes.

It sure does help to take a break and go out and say THANKS to people once in awhile.

The last time I checked, there were no laws against saying THANK YOU.

Harvard, if you look at the bottom of the piece there IS a paid for by line, in a box... it's huge, how the fuck did you miss that?

Blue Dog Rising

"Just check the election stats for Paula and Mary Jo for last fe w years.Paula has traditionally run far more strongly than Kilroy in the suburbs and even city precints of the 15th" is somewhat misleading. First off Paula has only run countywide once. Does that make a "tradition"? In 04, Paula ran against a weak, battered, underfunded, R on the downside of her career. Klroy ran against a young, up and comer, moderate, who had fundraising, ability and came from a traditionally D area. Kilroy game quit a bit of money to Paula to help her.

not true

brooks ran against a long-time commissioner with quite a bit of money.  she was helped by a breaking scandal, but really earned the win.  prior to that, paula held several positions in ua -- a traditionally republican area.

this isn't a swipe at kilroy -- just wanted to set the record straight on paula brooks.

Yes

Brooks beat a long time Commish, but Shoemaker absolutly did not have "quite a bit of money." Blue Dog said that Brooks traditionally stronger in the City and Suburbs than Kilroy. Citing 10-14 year old, non partisan, field races, in a suburb does not tell us much about someone's strength.
